Meet the blogger

Welcome to my page! I hope that you enjoy all that I have to share about traveling, foraging, & cooking.

Land acknowledgment: The place that I call home is situated on the traditional and unceded territory of the Syilx, Secwépemc, and Nlaka’pamux peoples.

Meet the Author

Where to begin?! Summing up who you are and what you do in one short blurb is tough. Let’s give it a go:

I am an elementary teacher, an outdoorswoman, and a writer of many forms.

It all started outside

Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve loved being outdoors. Now, whether it’s taking a few semesters to study in Mexico or hopping in my SUV & driving into the bush, I’m always planning the next adventure (or day trip, at least). I’m happiest in the mountains or by the lake.

And in the kitchen…

I am also super fortunate to have a Momma who can cook literally anything (and does most of it from scratch). Her creativity in the kitchen always inspired me (thanks, Momma), teaching me a love of exploring new flavors. So much of my cooking is now intuitive, and it’s thanks to the strong foundation I had growing up in a house where everything was homemade.

Where do travel & cooking meet?

Really, they’re beautifully connected. The abundance our natural world offers deeply inspires me in the kitchen, and being in nature inspires me to harvest natural ingredients for cooking.

Am I a pro forager? Not even close! I’m forever learning. My phone is filled with plant photos to ID, lists of recipes I want to try, and questions about foraging that I have. I’m also often reading books or online literature about plant identification and harvesting. So, let’s learn and grow together.

Writing

I have loved writing for many years. This blog is by no means my first venture in writing. If you’re interested in the teaching & learning side of my life, go check out my other blog, Crosson’s Classroom, btw!

In fact, I have created and deleted more blog pages and online writing spaces than I would like to admit. Even as a young girl, I would write songs in my notebooks and would free-write about anything and everything: My dreams, desires, and deepest feelings.

In my second practicum of my Master’s, I taught a Gr. 2 unit on poetry. Exploring a new-to-me form of writing alongside 25 of my favourite kiddos made me realize that I’m hard-pressed to find a type of writing I don’t enjoy.

I even love writing essays – Although an undergraduate degree and half a Master’s later, this fire is slowly dimming…

There’s just something beautiful about putting a pen to a page and letting everything out. (Or your fingers on a keyboard…) It’s quite healing, if you ask me. So, I figured it was time to share my thoughts with the world.

There you have it, folks! That’s me. ♡
