  1. Farm-to-table delights: Indulge in the region’s fresh produce and culinary delights at local farm-to-table restaurants such as The Wild Oak Café and The Clove.
  2. Wineries: Embark on a wine-tasting journey through the nearby Okanagan Valley, stopping by the locally owned and operated Edge of the Earth Winery.
  3. Cidery: Sample handcrafted ciders at the Farmstrong Cider Company, where you can enjoy a laid-back atmosphere and locally brewed ciders with ingredients grown right on the farm.

Things to do for the family

  1. Historical exploration: Step back in time with a visit to the Armstrong Spallumcheen Museum and Art Gallery, where interactive exhibits and artifacts showcase the area’s rich history.
  2. Outdoor adventures: Spend a day at Memorial Park, equipped with playgrounds, picnic areas, and walking trails, perfect for a family outing filled with fun and relaxation.
    • You might also hike Rose Swanson Mountain (a short day hike) or walk the trails at Thomas Hayes Park.
  3. Scenic Drives: Take a leisurely drive along the picturesque backroads of Armstrong, winding through rolling hills, orchards, and vineyards, with opportunities for stunning photo stops along the way.
  4. Animal encounters: Heading in from Vernon? Visit the Historic O’Keefe Ranch, where kids can interact with farm animals, take guided tours of the historic buildings, and even enjoy horseback riding adventures.
  5. Flower festivals: Walk amongst rows of beautiful flowers and take stunning photos at the adorable Bloom Flower Festivals. Or, visit Sparrow Grass Field and Flower for beautiful U-Pick bouquets. They also have delicious ice cream and other treats during the summer and fall.
  6. Armstrong IPE: Visiting during the late summer? Try to make it for the Armstrong IPE in the last weekend of August. Visit farm animals, go on rides, check out the tons of vendors, and definitely watch the stampede. There’s tons more to do at the fair, so be sure to check out the website.
  7. Armstrong pumpkin patch: If you’re visiting in the fall, you need to grab some U-Pick pumpkins at the patch!
  8. Caravan Farm Theatre: This is one of the coolest places in town to visit. Catch a live theatre performance or check for local bands playing at their outdoor theatre!

Date nights

  1. Stargazing: Escape the city lights and enjoy a romantic evening under the stars on one of the backgrounds, or park at Otter Lake and sit on the dock.
  2. Golf and dinner: Treat your loved one to an afternoon of golf and a delicious dinner at the Overlander. There’s also golfing at the Spallumcheen Golf and Country Club.
  3. Drive in movies: Technically this is in Enderby, but the Starlight Drive In is a short drive from Armstrong and a local’s favorite choice for date nights.
  4. Local events: There’s often cute events happening in town. Check the local Armstrong Spallumcheen Chamber of Commerce’s page to find out whats happening during your visit.

Shopping

There are lots of cute shops in town, but these are a few of my personal favorites.

  1. Armstrong Farmers Market: Visit BC’s longest running farmer’s market and purchase some delicious locally grown and cooked food, coffee, and gifts from all around the region. There’s often live music, too! Open every Saturday from 10-2 at Oddfellow’s Hall in the Winter and Saturday from 8:30-12:30 in the IPE fairgrounds during the summer.
  2. Monashee Outdoors: This is my favorite local outdoors store is Monashees. I go here first for all of my lures, hiking gear, and camping gear.
  3. Fieldnotes Market: This adorable shop has all things locally-made. From wooden vases made by a local woodworker to beautiful home decor, this cute store has it all.
  4. Armstrong Flower and Gift: Purchase beautiful flowers and other goodies at this cute little shop!
  5. Frugal Frocks Modern and Vintage Consignment: There’s always great consignment deals at this shop! Plus they have a little coffee bar.
  6. The Village Cheese Company: Delight your taste buds with artisanal cheeses crafted right here in Armstrong. Explore a variety of flavors and pairings, and don’t forget to grab some gourmet crackers and preserves to complement your cheese selection.
  7. Sea Stars Kids Boutique: Looking for new and pre-loved kids clothing? There’s tons to choose from here!
  8. Frosted Tier Cakes: If you have a sweet tooth, you need to visit here. You can special order deserts or stop in for some delicious sweet treats like macarons.
